General Description
Feedwater is first dosed with ferric chloride following filtration in a system consisting of 24 horizontal pressure filters, each having a surface area of 52 m2 and a 1.15 m deep filter bed of dual media. To protect the reverse osmosis membranes against physical fouling by suspended solids, filtered seawater is then passed through an array of 5-micron cartridge filters. Filter backwash water is treated using a high rate Densadeg gravity thickener and the sludge is dewatered for land disposal.
